Makeup Overload
Every little girl gets caught playing in her mother’s makeup once in a while. From a very young age, girls know that makeup is fun and pretty. Getting dressed up and decorating your face is one of the best things about being a woman. With so many different eye shadows, eyeliners, blushes, and mascaras, you get the feeling that you are in makeup heaven. The fun is found in picking colors and styles that fit you and flatter you the best. As enjoyable and appealing as makeup is, there are some downfalls to wearing and using certain types of makeup.
One thing that many women, young and old, suffer from is acne. That being said, having different skin types and using certain makeup products, cleansers, and creams can affect the health of your skin on different levels.
Acne can be caused for a number of reasons, the most common is an oily substance called sebum. Sebum penetrates and clogs up your pores to cause irritation, which leads to blemishes. This sebum is natural and is produced by your skin. Also, when sebum is mixed with other oily substances or even alcohols, found in hair products and perfume, it can be very damaging to your skin.
Makeup products that contain penetrating oils are more likely to clog your pores. You should avoid wearing cream blushes and eye shadows because they are a key contributor. The cream found in these blushes and eye shadows is made using penetrating oil that can spread around your face and aggravate your pores. Another ingredient to look out for is a mineral called mica that is also found in eye shadows and blushes. This tiny mineral is jagged and sharp; it will irritate your pores causing them to be more susceptible to the oils around them.
As mentioned before, the alcohols from hair products and perfumes are also to blame. The alcohol found in hair spray and perfume should not come in contact with your skin due to the dryness and annoyance they can cause.
Other problems can arise from wearing oil-containing makeup, for example, daily activities can cause you to sweat therefore clogging your pores even more. To avoid blemishes and damaged skin, look for makeup that is tagged oil free. Know that makeup containing mineral oil is less likely to cause a break out too. If you decide to purchase and wear makeup that contains oils, be sure to wash and exfoliate your face every morning and every night so that the makeup does not become a permanent problem. As for hair sprays and body sprays, avoid your face when applying them or look in to the alcohol free hair products and perfumes that are out there for the same reasons.
All girls love to look good and smell good, but skin health should be a top priority. You can find valuable information about the makeup you are wearing and the makeup you should be wearing. Read labels and talk to cosmetologists, find out your skin type and then find out which makeup products are best for you.
